Yay! The September holidays are here – feels like it’s been forever, hasn’t it? This year, the precious holiday week lasts from 3rd September to 12th September.
We know that everyone is all excited and looking forward to it. So, what are your plans to make the best use of this time?
If you haven’t thought about it, we have some interesting ideas for you!
Things to do to make the most out of these holidays
- Prep for next semester
Even though holidays are about fun, they shouldn’t exclusively be about just that. You should also think ahead and prepare for the upcoming term. Taking a break (for too long) may not be the best idea, especially when Term 4 promises to be more intense. Do schedule in for some revision, along with all the other holiday activities.
- Reflect and Rethink
Ask your children to use the time to reflect on the previous term and how they performed academically during the term. Identify areas of improvement and work with them to rethink their strategies and plans for the upcoming school term.
- Make a new schedule
Help them make a study schedule accommodating enough time to study as well as other activities they enjoy doing.
- Look ahead
Revision is critical to maintain and improve their academic performance. Encourage them to look up subjects and topics for the upcoming term and focus on building up their basics.
- Family activities
Take some time off and spend time together. Nothing beats creating a stress-free and supportive family environment to motivate your children to do their best in school. There are many things you can do with your family even when limited by covid safety regulations.
- Museums and Zoos
Museums and zoos can be places to have fun as well as learn new things. It will be an educational experience for your children. Make the most out of the visits. There are countless places you can visit. Discuss with your family and choose one that would suit your tastes.
- Picnics
Plan a picnic with the whole family. Prepare food and fun activities. You can go to gardens and parks, or even take your family to someplace exotic and remote. Spend a day without interruptions from other things – especially gadgets!
- Singapore Food Festival
The Singapore Food Festival is an annual event held to celebrate the local cuisine and celebrate the country’s rich culinary culture. This year it started on 27th August and will end on 12th September. With dishes you have never seen before, Masterclasses that teach you cooking, and workshops, it will be an exciting event for both you and your children.
- Hiking
Hiking is a great way to add some adventure to your holidays. Make sure you choose a trail that is not too hard so that everyone can enjoy it. Prepare for the hike early. Advise your children not to litter or damage the hiking trails.
- Volunteer
Being grateful for what you have and giving back to the community are vital lessons to teach your children. Make some time to sign up yourself and your children to volunteer at community centers or other places that you know. It can be a great life experience for your children.
- Hobbies and Crafts
Help your children pick new hobbies or indulge in ones they already have. Hobbies are indeed a great way to spend free time. They can be educational and even help improve concentration and attention. If your children are confused, help them choose one.
Provide your children with supplies and space to do it. There are great simulators that can help cultivate imagination and creativity in children. There are many tutorials online that can help your children learn anything they want. Support their efforts, and they might surprise you with something you might not have imagined. Who knows? Your encouragement might be what brings out the latent talent in your child.
Teach them to cook and other life-skills
Take some time to spend with your children and use it to teach them valuable life skills. Teach them how to cook, make basic repairs, give first aid, and so on. It might prove helpful to them later in life. But, make sure that you are not too strict while teaching these and make it a fun activity!
Get some fresh air
Try to make sure your children are not cooped up at home throughout the holidays. Encourage them to spend time outside. But make sure they follow the covid safety guidelines and are being safe.
Events and activities
There are many activities and events by various organizations that coincide with the September holidays. Search online or ask around about events scheduled near you- Workshops, competitions, masterclasses, meditation, and yoga training classes, and so on. Workshops often last for a week or less. But they can teach your children valuable skills in that short time.
Many online websites and organizations also provide short-term internships. The September holiday is very short, and soon, the week will flash by, leaving you with only memories to reminisce about.
We hope these holidays are productive and happy times for you and your children. Happy Holidays! 🙂
