H-o-l-i-d-a-y-s! That’s the best time of the year isn’t it? Are you ready to enjoy your well-earned vacation? This year might have seemed a bit longer with all that has happened around. But thankfully, we have held out till now with a great deal of positivity. It’s now time to sit back and enjoy the holidays! Of course, we need to (and will definitely) be a bit extra careful.
Thinking about traveling?
Are you planning to travel? Traveling or even going for a vacation was a distant dream for a good part of this year. Now, after months of staying at home, we have an option to travel to a good number of destinations. With many of the countries and travel destinations reopening, the hospitality and travel industries are also taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of tourists. During this holiday season, if you too decide to travel, make sure that you’re prepared and well informed.
Do your research
Before you start packing your bags and set off for your holiday, do proper research. Otherwise, you may end up spending most of your vacation in quarantine. All over the world, there are restrictions and guidelines for travelers and this varies according to the country you are visiting. So make sure you read up on the official government websites and other vital details before going. Check:
- Whether the place you’re traveling to is of high risk
- Whether there is any quarantine period
- Whether there are enough healthcare facilities
- What the costs of healthcare are
Try to keep close to home
Rather than going to faraway or outside countries, this would be a good time to explore local places. Stay close to home and within the country so that if any emergencies occur during travel, you are not stranded. By staying in the country and exploring local attractions, this can also be a big help to the local tourism industry that has been hit by the pandemic.
Safety First
Try to avoid busy places. Go for less traveled to, or more open places. Strictly follow the rules and safety guidelines of the place you’re visiting and try to book everything in advance so that you can avoid standing in line or even waiting in common places. With the social distancing rules, keep to yourself and avoid interacting with unknown people as much as possible. Make sure that the people you’re traveling with are also safety conscious.
Be flexible with your planning. Keep in mind that these are uncertain times and your plans and booking might get canceled at any time. Plan accordingly and have alternative activities planned. Keep some indoor games or books with you so that you’ll not be bored if you get stuck indoors.
Spend time effectively at home.
If you find yourself not interested to travel during this situation, you can make it into a stay-at-home vacation. There are many things that you can do to make the time enjoyable.
Virtual Tours
If you have an internet connection, you can travel to exotic places without even leaving your couch. If you want to see different places in the world without exposing yourself to health risks or spending money, there are various websites that provide virtual tours to several iconic places in the world. You can visit the Vatican, the Louvre and other fascinating holiday destinations, just to name a few.
Shoot some videos or learn a skill
Get your friends together and shoot some cool TikTok videos, that’s the recent social media trend now. You could also invest some time to pick up a skill online or with the help of your family members, learn to cook a few dishes or take a few lessons in origami or craftwork. The options are endless.
Read or Binge-Watch Away
There’s plenty of quality video content out there and there is really no way that you can exhaust all the content that quickly. This could also be a good way to spend some quality time with your friends and family. Binge-watch something or make a holiday movie list that you can check off with your loved ones.
Do remember to invest some time in reading some quality books during the free time that you get this holiday season. Pick the best books on the reading list and enjoy them – it’s a rare opportunity that you get to enjoy the books, so cherish the time!
These holidays, relax and give yourself some time off. Do what you love to do. Just remember to be cautious in whatever you do. After all, Covid-19 is still around us, and we have to remain vigilant to beat this virus together. Wishing all students a wonderful holiday season! 🙂
