Who doesn’t like to go on trips? They offer refreshing and well-deserved breaks from your hectic life. Family trips help to strengthen our familial bonds. But travelling with your children can become extremely challenging. There is no doubt that plane rides with your kids are going to be at the top of your travel concerns. The worst case scenario here is that you end up getting embarrassed among a crowd of strangers and your child goes through a remorseful journey. Is there a way out here? How can you prepare your child for plane rides so that you don’t end up causing any inconvenience to your co-passengers while your child does not have to go through a regrettable experience?
Lay it out bare
If your kids have never been on a plane ride before (or even if they have) explain to them the rules they would have to follow during the course of the journey. Remind them that they ought to bring to the fore their best behaviour. You might end up travelling on crowded flights and so an active child may at times turn into an irritation for your co-passengers. The importance of staying in your seats when the seat belt sign is on is something that a lot our kids don’t understand. Make this one of your points in the instructions that you give your kids before the journey.
Don’t forget to carry some entertainment
Plane rides can turn into a hostile experience for your kids. To prevent things from going down south you have to make sure that you carry along with something that can buy you time, something that would keep your kids occupied. If your kid is a book lover, then a good book would be the ideal choice. Otherwise, there are the usual choices – iPads, Tablets, video games and so on. The in-flight entertainment may not always be enough to cater to your kid’s needs. An important thing to note here is the timing. Don’t shower the entertainment on them too early during a long flight as they may end up getting bored of it with a good part of the journey still left. So, while you pack your travel bags make sure that your child-friendly gadgets are powered up and ready for the journey as well.
Snacks and Toys
Carry a good enough stock of your kid’s favourite snacks for your plane ride. Again, introduce them at the right moment, that is when there is no other way out or when your child turns hungry. You do not want to end up at the mercy of the in-flight refreshments. Carrying along your kid’s favourite toys is a good idea. Arrange a small flight backpack for your kid. You can pack a few toys in it along with gadgets. Fluffy toys are a gem here. So, if your kid has a bedtime teddy then make it a point to carry them along. Your child will feel more comfortable and the chances of the restless toddler falling asleep like an angel would increase.
A plane ride with kids can be tormenting. But you are not the first ones to try it and so it is not something that cannot be handled. Prepare your kids in advance and follow the few points discussed above. Let’s kickstart a wonderful vacation with a trouble-free plane ride.
