How often have you heard the quote – ‘you are what you eat?’ Food is undoubtedly one of the most crucial things upon which our existence hinges and this exam season the importance of food and a proper diet cannot be stressed more. Exam preparation like any other thing is not just a mental exercise with exclusivity. It is more holistic. Now, why is this so? Because only a sound body can maintain a sound mind. I did mention in a cursory manner about the importance of paying attention to your food habits in our previous blog. Here we shall delve a bit deep into the dos and don’ts with regards to our food habits this exam season. Let us see how eating right can end up getting you better results.
Never Skip meals
As mentioned in one of our previous blogs, ‘Let’s beat the exam fever’ , the golden rule to be observed here is to not skip your meals. Don’t let your kids compromise on this rule at any cost. Exams are not an excuse for you to be skipping meals. Poor eating can not only affect your long term health but also have the immediate consequence of wrecking your exam preparation. ‘Breakfast’ is undoubtedly the king of meals. Have a large and diversified breakfast devoid of junk food as much as possible. With regards to lunch and dinner see to that your child is not overfed. Too much food can result in lower concentration levels. Rice and other starchy food items can make you more sleepy. So rule number two would be, ‘do not overfeed your kid’.
Consume Food that gives your Brain the “Push”
Can eating some specific thing magically boost your memory power and turn you invincible? Well, that’s something for science fiction movies but there are certain food items which can boost your brain’s performance. Making sure that your kid gets a lot of these through the meals can be really productive. But what are these divine food items? Well, let us get to that part. Ever heard of Omega – 3 fatty acids? Well if you have not then this exam season is a good time to start hearing about them and using them. These nutrients can help improve your concentration and memory power. But where can you get them from? Oily fish is the best option. These include fish such as sardines, tuna, mackerel, salmon and a few others. Some seeds such as those of melon, sunflower and chia are also rich in these nutrients. Try to eat foods which are less processed and more healthy. Include a lot of green, leafy vegetables and fruits in your exam diet. Nuts are also a good investment in this regard. Another important thing is to make sure that you feed your kids wholesome meals incorporating all the nutrients.
Drink Plenty of water
This is something that we have been hearing from times long gone. But the repetition of the statement does not contradict the importance of the fact that water is the best medicine available to man and it the best friend of a healthy body. Make sure that your kid drinks a lot of water and that he drinks it at regular intervals. Now, what do we mean by ‘a lot’? Well, at least 2 Litres per day should be set as the par.
Eating right is one of those things which can help you gain better results. Keep in mind what we discussed above and it could help your child reap huge benefits. This exam season, let’s eat right.
