As the exam season spreads across the nation, our students are all immersed in their preparation. Students are doing all that they can in order to put up their best performance inside the exam hall. Now, there definitely is a lot of talk both within our homes as well as outside regarding what students must do during these last days in the run-up to the exams. But there’s something that is quite relevant but not getting the adequate amount of discussion time.
Let’s address that today – what should parents be doing this exam season? How can we provide better support for our kids?
You are prepared
Something that we very often forget, is that we have prepared for the examinations. When entering the exam hall, students, we need to remember that we are not signing up for something that we, or in this case, you, have no clue about. You have prepared for the exams. You have done the hard work. There’s nothing that can derail all that. Repeat this to yourself and believe it. Only you know how much work you’ve put in, and to throw that all away because of a completely unnecessary fear is not doing yourself justice. The moment you believe in yourself, and your efforts, this will put you at ease and calm your nerves down.
Get your share of sleep and fresh air
Now your performance inside the exam hall can be significantly influenced by certain external factors. Sleep, food and fresh air can all influence your performance. So what should you do? Ensure that you get a good night’s sleep on the days before your examination. (Yes, this might be a bit difficult for many. But then, for the sake of scoring well for our examinations, this can definitely be done!)
Ensure that you have an adequate amount of food and don’t skip meals during the exam season. Go out for a short walk or stretch your muscles frequently. Keep your mind fresh and relaxed. A bit of meditation would be a good practice to have.
Practise mock papers
In the run-up to the exams, take a few mock tests. How does this help you inside the exam hall? Well, you should take the mock tests as if you are inside the exam hall. Sit at your desk, set a timer and imagine that it is the actual exam. This will definitely help you improve your time management and fine-tune your exam- tackling approach.
But, more importantly, it will acquaint you with the actual mood inside the exam hall at least to a certain extent.
So come the exam day, you will not have much to be tense about. The exam hall will seem like a more familiar place to you as we seldom fear what we are familiar with.
Ace your time management
Poor time management is one thing that can surely shoot up the pressure while you are inside the exam hall. We did suggest that you take a few mock tests which would help out in this regard as well. Always have a plan when it comes to time management. Use a few minutes initially to chart out a plan as to how you would be going about in the coming minutes or hours. Follow this mental plan and keep track of your progress.
It’s just a test
At the end of the day, you are just taking a test. You have done all that you could during the preparation. In all likelihood, you will do well. But what if the question paper appears too tough? Will stressing out over that fact do you any good inside the exam hall? No! So in this less likely situation, realise that this is just another test. This will help you maintain your composure and salvage the situation. When things are not going your way, trusting yourself and staying calm can end up getting you the best results. Keep that in mind.
Dear students, you are well prepared to take the examinations. Remember that and try following the other tips that we have suggested. You’ve got this. Make the most out of the upcoming examinations. All the best! 🙂
