It’s that time of the year again. The Mid Year Assessments are just around the corner and the coming days can provide many sleepless nights to students and parents. Tensions are set to soar up and as responsible parents, you will be needed to keep a cool mind and ensure that things don’t get out of hand. One of the main problems that is going to haunt your kid is that of ‘carelessness’. Nobody likes to make a careless mistake. It is like throwing away all the hard work that you have done in preparation. But don’t worry, with a few simple steps, we can drastically reduce the chances of your kid fumbling due to careless errors. We’ll be there with you at each step of the examinations and today let’s start with this issue of carelessness.
Revision and Re-revision
This sounds boring, doesn’t it? Well, it can also produce better results. The more times you revise something, the better hold you get over the subject matter. You could make the revision sessions more fun for your kids by having quizzes and giving them small treats for good performance, like maybe a piece of chocolate or a scoop of ice cream. Revision makes you the master of the syllabus and drastically reduces the chances of careless mistakes.
The exam hall is no place to panic
How calm is your kid inside the exam hall? Anxiety levels skyrocket inside these halls for a lot of our kids. This adversely affects their performance. Give your kid some pep talks and tell them that they don’t have to panic. Ask them to be confident and tell them that at the end of the day it is just a test. The more tensed your child is, the more careless mistakes will spring up. All the hard work during preparation can be made of no use with some unwanted tension inside the exam hall.
Overconfidence is your enemy as well – re-check everything
Your kid might know all the answers and might finish the exam in half the time. But teach him/her to never forget to re-check the answer sheet. This single step can save your kid from losing marks carelessly. This is easy, right? As easy as this may sound, many are quite incapable of following this. Re-checking your answer sheet can be boring. It requires a great degree of patience and a focused mind. Get your kids to do this properly and they will be able to weed out silly grammatical errors and arithmetic blunders which could have otherwise affected their marks.
The destructive duo – Mathematics and Carelessness
There is absolutely no doubt with this, is there? It’s something that we humans have known for ages. The story hasn’t changed, and carelessness can cost your kid the most with Mathematics. Make sure that you put in an extra bit of attention here. Try simulating the exam hall atmosphere through mock tests and after identifying careless mistakes, seek to rectify them. It goes without saying that double checking becomes even more important.
