This time-tested method makes your kid ready for the classroom session. There is another benefit for this routine as well. It makes your child a disciplined learner, something that would be a vital asset for him for the remainder of his life.
Learning through questions
A lot of kids might find it tough to ask questions. Many tend to be shy or insecure in this regard. This tendency should be addressed. And whose job is this? Both parents and teachers should take equal responsibility here. Both at home as well as at school, children should be encouraged to ask questions. They must be helped to come out of any fear that they might harbour. Your kid may get laughed at by his friends for his questions. But that should not be a hindrance. Adding Some Fun
How many of us have fallen asleep in class? Do you think your kids don’t get bored in class? Well, we can safely assume that they get bored as frequently as we did when we were in school. But this can be addressed. Does anybody feel sleepy when they are having fun?
So, what do we do here? We add in a lot more activity to the classroom learning process. More discussion should be encouraged among students. If there is scope to do so then debates can be conducted after dividing the students into different groups inside the classroom. You could have them enact the stories or scenes from plays which are in the syllabus and even let them include a bit of improvisation.
Scribbling Down Essentials
Making notes about what is being discussed is a good habit. But this can tend to be counterproductive as well. How do you make sure that you don’t overdo this? Students should first learn to be good listeners in order to be efficient at note-making. Listen, comprehend and jot down the most essential part of what is being discussed. These notes can be valuable while you are going in for last-minute revision or when you are trying to clarify something from class.
