Studying too much!
Is there even such a thing?
We are in the PSLE season folks. What happens when the exams are around? Normally, both students, as well as their parents, make efforts to step up their game. You pour in the midnight oil, you try to cover everything in the syllabus and quite often you freak out.
No one wants to be studying less during the exams. But what if there was an opposite possibility?
The perils of studying more
Yes! You can definitely end up studying too much. Doing so would definitely bring about some really negative consequences. It can bring down your efficiency and take a toll on your grades. Does that scare you enough? So, you need to ensure that you are not overburdening yourself by putting too much on your plate (Trust us when we say that no one wants to jeopardize their preparation by studying too much). But how do you spot the signs?
Stressing out
Are you putting in a good number of study hours? Do you feel stressed out from all your study? If you are experiencing too much stress then this might be an indicator that you are putting way too much of your energy into studies (yes, you need a break!).
Usually, when this happens, nothing more that you study tends to get into your head. If that’s the case, then what happens next? You get even more stressed out than you previously were.
So what do you do if either of the above-discussed signs pops up? You should realise that your mind might be sending you signals, informing you that it is at a point of saturation and that you definitely need to take some time off.
Eat, sleep, relax
Let’s make this clear. Exams are not an excuse for you to skip meals, sleep or relaxation. Now, some of you might have raised eyebrows right now, but hear us out.
Losing out on sleep, eat or adequate relaxation is an indication that you are studying too much.
Food, sleep and relaxation are all essential factors for maintaining proper physical, mental and emotional well-being, all of which are important when you are about to study or take your exams.
Studying too much by forfeiting these essential requirements can land you in a lot of trouble and decrease the entire efficiency of your learning process.
Nothing but books
Are you cutting down significantly on the time you indulge in conversation with other people? Are you reclining to yourself more often? This might also be an indication that you are working too much with your textbooks. Even though there are exams going on, you should be able to take your eyes off your books for a while and nurture your familial or social relations.
A quick tip: Make use of online revision videos from recognised training institutions to speed up your revision process. Moreover, online tuition videos can be an effective learning option for those looking for an engaging learning experience with just a few weeks away from the final exam.
Trust yourself
Ok, so on most occasions, it is those who have completed the syllabus in a comprehensive manner who end up overdoing it by studying too much.
So the first step to preventing studying too much is to realise that you have done enough. Don’t panic. If you have covered the required syllabus efficiently then accept that fact – you have done enough! This will help you put things in a better perspective and remain calmer.
The fine balance
As a student, your success lies in striking a fine balance. You should neither be complacent and study less nor should you get stressed out and study too much. Learning to do this ensures that you are on the right trajectory where you are functioning at the best efficiency
So keep your eyes open to identify if you are wearing yourself out too much and studying way more than what you should be. Parents can do a great deal in this regard. Remember that you don’t need to do more, nor should you do less. Stick to the golden mean, believe in yourself and be aware that nothing good is going to come out of your getting panicked. All the best! 🙂
