How to frame the perfect PSLE revision plan
Knock knock!
It’s PSLE at the door. But don’t worry. Breathe. What do you do now?
Well, for starters, this is definitely not the time to panic. This is the time for revision. So time to take out your practice shoes. But wait, before you cruise ahead, get to the drawing board. You need to think this through. Let’s draw up a perfect PSLE revision plan before you plunge yourself into action. For all other levels, we are not leaving you out! Do use this plan to help you organise your revision timetable.
Why do you need a plan?
If you have been reading our blogs regularly then you would already know by now as to why you should have a proper plan while preparing for taking an examination. Right now, time is your most precious resource. Why do we say so? Precisely because you have very little time left. In this scenario, you definitely do not want to waste even a single second. Without a proper plan, you just cannot allocate your time efficiently. You might end up wasting too much time on stuff that you only need to spend a relatively lesser amount of time on. You might also miss out on important stuff.
Long story short, a plan helps you to chart your course, keep track of your progress and ensure that your preparation is always at the optimal level.
Learn to prioritise
Plans need to be built at the individual level. Each of you who are preparing for the PSLE (or other major end-of-year examinations) might have your own strong points and weak points when it comes to the syllabus. So what’s the first step while framing the ideal EOY revision plan? You need to identify where you are at. Figure out the subjects as well as areas within the different subjects where you are trailing behind. These are the areas to which you should give high priority to. You should also identify the areas over which you can already claim mastery. These are your less priority areas.
Allocate your time efficiently – give you high priority areas more time. You need to chart out a strategy for each and every single one of the upcoming days.
Learn to keep track
How often do we do everything exactly to plan? (Don’t worry, we all end up messing up at least some of our plans) Many unforeseen things might pop-up and you might not always be able to move according to your plan. This is exactly why you need to keep track of your revision periodically. Every 1-2 days stop and take a look at how much progress you have made. Compare it with what you had planned to achieve within that time. You might need to make some changes to ensure that you stay on track to complete your revision at the right time.
Take a few tests
Sprinkle a few revision tests into your revision schedule. While taking these tests try to create the mood of the actual examination hall. Set a timer and approach the test seriously. These tests can help you understand how well you have mastered various topics in the syllabus and shed light on the areas where you need to still put in a bit more effort. (P.S make sure that the tests don’t take a toll on your morale. Remind yourself that the aim of the practice tests themselves is to identify the areas where you are struggling in and ensure that you are able to put in a perfect performance during the actual PSLE) Doing tests during your revision can also help you manage time efficiently inside the exam hall.
Figure out when to stop
The last piece of advice – you are not supposed to be studying until the last minute before your exam. (Never forget that)
Chart your revision plan in such a manner that you are able to close your books and keep them aside at least a day or two before the exams. Give yourself some time to calm your nerves before you go all guns blazing in the exam hall.
To all the students taking the PSLE this year, trust yourself guys, you’ve got this. Keep the things we discussed in mind while framing your revision plan and ace your PSLE. All the best! 😊
