International Women’s Day 2022: Celebrating the women in your life
“If You Educate a Woman, You Educate a Nation”.
Women have it hard everywhere in the world. The gaping gender inequality and discrimination – women succeed despite that. They are heroes without capes.
International Women’s Day falls on the 8th of March every year. Let us take this occasion to celebrate the women in our lives- mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, teachers, whoever it might be. Let’s take some time to shout out to them and pay tribute. They have been exceptional. No one can downplay their roles and contributions. This year, let us look at how we can thank them and pay them the respect they deserve and make it a truly unforgettable experience for them!
Give credit to the hard work they put in
Be it the women in your family or your teachers, they all put in enormous efforts for you and anyone close to them. They support all around them acting like pillars to whoever needs them. They work hard to empower themselves in a society that hasn’t been kind to them. So, praise them for the hard work they do. Thank them for the efforts they put in.
Tell them you love them
Tell your mother, your grandmother, or your sister that you love them. Spend some time with them and reminisce about the times you’ve spent together and the precious memories you had with them. Your attention and love will make them feel happier than you can imagine.
Ask them what they want to do
Ask them whether there is anything they’ve wanted to do but couldn’t. See if you can make it possible. Don’t feel discouraged if the things they want are difficult for you to make possible. Use it as a starting place to think of some other alternative that can make them happy.
Take them out for the day
Take them out for dinner or a walk in the park. Be it your mother, sister or any other person, make sure you spend some enjoyable time with them. Let them breathe some fresh air and be free from all the stress and pressures of life.
Cook for them
Nothing expresses gratitude and love like a well-cooked meal. Spend some time and cook a good meal for the women around you. Ask your mother to leave the cooking to you and let them rest. Preparing a good breakfast will be the best option as it will give them the energy they need to carry on with their hectic day.
Sign up for community work
You can sign up with organisations working towards women’s empowerment and lessening the gender disparity. You can also opt to donate to organisations working towards causes supporting women.
Gifts for the women in your life
It doesn’t necessarily have to be costly or even bought, handmade gifts will do. It is the gesture and thought that counts. You can also gift coupons or gift certificates for spas or health centres. Plan according to how much money you have. But no matter what it is, we can assure you they will be happy and elated.
Plan a celebration
Order a cake, invite people close to you and celebrate the day. If you are in school, get together and plan with all your classmates to honour and celebrate your teachers and tell them how much you value them. If you are working, organise a gathering to celebrate your female coworkers and celebrate the day with them. Internationally, purple is a colour for symbolising women. You can choose it as a colour theme if you are otherwise undecided.
Educate yourself on why Women’s Day matters
Celebrating without understanding why the day is important won’t do. Read up on the biographies of prominent women throughout history, about the struggles of women for equality and the oppression they have faced over time. Once you understand these, you’ll be more aware of what challenges women around you are still facing and we hope you become supportive of their cause.
Take a pledge to treat women fairly and equally
We might think that we are all educated and without bias on gender. But society and human history have been biased for so long that it is ingrained in our subconscious minds. Many people still think of “weak” and “in need of help” when they think of women. They associate women with being weak-hearted without even thinking. Even when we know that these stereotypes aren’t true, the long-held beliefs of our past generations still linger in corners of our subconscious minds. That is why many men feel insulted when a woman, rather than another man, outperforms them somewhere. We need to make a conscious effort on our part to be aware of these prejudices that exist within us and work towards getting rid of them. So, this women’s day, pledge that you will try to work towards that and try to keep true to it.
We hope these tips help you out in making the day memorable for all the special women in your lives. Make sure you don’t put these into practice just for the day. Try to keep it in mind every day of your life and treat them with the respect and love they deserve. We hope you’ll work towards helping solve the issues faced by women all over the world.
And we would like this opportunity to shout out to all the women out there and tell you that you are all fantastic and doing a wonderful job out there!
Happy Women’s Day! 🙂
