Think October! What do we get? Yes, we are in the final quarter of the year. But what this also means is that it’s….. Finally Children’s Day!
Yes, our little Padawans, this is a day that we are reminded of your importance, not just for us to educate and nurture, but because you are our hope for the future. We celebrate this day that is meant to cheer on that’s the day on which we celebrate children across the length and breadth of our country. But what about this year?
We were supposed to celebrate Children’s Day on the first Friday of October, right? Oh well, there’s been a slight change. This year, departing a bit away from convention, we are going to have most of our children’s day celebrations on 9th October, the second Friday of the month.
But the change is definitely only with regard to the date. This is going to be a Children’s Day that’s as special (or even more special) as always. Children spread joy wherever they go. Well, we’re sure that none of you have any doubts about that. Their innocence, positivity and cuteness rarely fail to bring a smile to those around them. So this children’s day, let us all make sure that our tiny tots get to feel how special they truly are!
What’s in a day for children?
Across the globe, children’s day is celebrated on different dates. We in Singapore celebrate it in the month of October. But what’s the rationale behind setting aside such a day? Well, who doesn’t love children? Kids bring joy, warmth and excitement to all those around them. So, why not set aside a day for these delightful tiny tots.
With our fast-paced lives today, many parents hardly find any time to spend with their kids. Children’s day gives you the perfect incentive to prioritise spending time with your kids. It is an apt time to bond a bit more with our young ones.
Children’s day in 2020
This has definitely been a long year. We have had to rewrite all of the rules that we had used to devise our daily routines. The case has been similar for children as well. But how did they fare? Our little ones have aced the challenges that were put forth before them. Whether it was dealing with restrictions in their movement or switching to online learning or taking the PSLE in such a scenario, our kids were quick to adapt and ensure that things went on without much hassle. That surely adds to the aura of this year’s children’s day.
In the past 9 months, our kids have surely learnt a lot. Managing online learning, coping with having to stay home most of the time – barely any physical interaction with their peers, going to the playgrounds, even stepping out of their homes was a huge no-no! In turn, they got to spend some extra time with their parents and have definitely matured by more than a year.
Crafting a Children’s Day Worth Remembering
So, what are we going to do to make this children’s day special? Firstly, make sure that you get to spend some quality time with your kids. There’s really nothing more valuable than that. Let’s make our kids feel appreciated. Let’s let them know how much we love and how proud we are of them. Share a pack of ice cream or bake a nice chocolate cake together. Parents could even make things more exciting and bake their own cake with your little ones. Even spending a day on the couch watching with your kids some of their favourite movies would be a good idea. Let’s share, speak and enjoy with them this October 9th.
Let them spread their wings
Our kids hold within themselves the future. Growing up in this fast-paced, internet-powered world, they are tech-savvy and quick to get the hang of all the latest advancements. Well, during these circuit breaker measures, our youngsters even turned into teachers for their parents who at many times were in need of help when using technology; the ability to switch online for various activities.
The future is surely bright for these little ones. So what do we have to do? Just remind them to spread their wings, dream big and work hard to achieve what they dream of. Parents, teachers and elders, it’s on all of us to shower our love and care on our young ones.
This children’s day, let’s commend our kids and reassure them that a bright future lays ahead. As our kids march ahead in age with every passing year, let’s never miss the opportunities to celebrate them and give them all our love and care.
There’s a kid within each one of us. Let us bring out that kid within us and make this children’s day a really special one for our children!
