It’s been almost two months now since the Circuit Breaker measures kicked in, and now, we have just entered Phase 1 post Circuit Breaker. Let’s be honest, how many of us have felt utterly bored during this period? It’s inevitable for us to feel this way as most of us are staying at home; either working, studying, or trying to find activities to do to occupy our time.
But wait, the fight is not over. What we are looking at is a gradual three-phase rollback of restrictions. Yes, it’s going to take some more time for us to get back to our normal lives. For many of us, this might feel a bit troubling. Have you simply run out of things to do indoors? Don’t worry. Today we will take a look at ways to keep ourselves occupied indoors.
Rebuilding Ourselves
Just two months ago, we were so busy with our jobs and it was unthinkable that we would all be locked indoors and working from home, or engaging in Home-Based Learning. In the quick blink of the eye, two months have passed and now, we are busy thinking about ways to kill time. It is after a long time that most of us have gotten some time for ourselves. Like a racing car, a small break to change the worn-out tyres could help us in the long run. Many of us may be thinking that the break has been too long; and that even though we are eager to resume outdoor activities, we have grown accustomed to working from home. The benefits of the pandemic allow us to enjoy a more leisurely pace of work without compromising our productivity – what’s not to like?
That being said, for those who are fortunate enough to have a more relaxed pace of doing your work, let yourself have the luxury of this free time. Get to know yourself better. The happiest bit of the quarantined life is catching up with the important people around you. You could call your old friends, read your childhood journals or video-call a cousin you rarely see.
Pick up a healthy lifestyle, if you haven’t already. Eating nutritious food, following workout routines and sleeping for a sound seven hours. Cleaning and rearranging your room into a tiny tidy paradise is another worthwhile venture. Hop on the bandwagon of individuals performing more baking, exercising or musical activities. #instagramworthy
Explore more, Revisit more
At the way things are going, it seems as though we are going to have some more free time before us and we could use it to learn new things. Take a look at the number of videos that you have saved to watch at a later time. Maybe that’s a good place to start with. Equip yourselves with some new skills. Who knows when they will come in handy?
It is possible to spend quality time on books and articles that can change the way you think. The thing with good books and movies is that you can revisit them and every single time that you pick up the book, the experience will be novel and refreshing. Get to know more, read between the lines and enlarge your perspective. Just by going through your favourite book once again, you might smile after noticing something that you never noticed during the umpteen previous reads.
Staying Pleasant
Almost all of us have taken to watching new web series and movies, haven’t we? There’s plenty of quality content on the web to immerse ourselves in. And yes, you have not exhausted all of it. Some of us are binge-watching those old favourites while also waiting patiently for new releases. If you come across a great piece of art or music, don’t forget to share it with your friends. Who knows? They may just need that spark to rejuvenate how they feel.
If you are still bored, take out a book or open the notepad on your laptop/mobile phone. Write or draw in your diary about the days that you are going through now. There are few things as liberating as penning down your thoughts, whether in pictorial or word format.
If you are at home and you can afford food and entertainment during this period, then you have every reason to be happy. You can never run out of things to do. Let us shake the dust off our old hobbies. Let us explore new ones. As the world is battling the pandemic, let’s all stay home, stay calm, pray and support the efforts to combat the most devastating disaster the modern world has seen. #SGunited
