Family Bonding during the Holidays!

Posted on December 1, 2020December 1, 2020 by 88tuition.com

H-o-l-i-d-a-y-! What does that give us? Yes, some peace and normalcy from the usual hustle and bustle, chaotic rush that school days bring us.

The year-end holidays have arrived and it’s time to breathe in some holiday air into our hearts and souls. This time, the holidays are extra special. It has been a really challenging year for all of us and we have trodden through it with a lot of effort and determination. This year we learned a lot about prioritizing and we figured out about what the important things in our lives are. One thing that all of us would have definitely realized is the importance of family. So, I guess it is only fitting that we spend some extra time bonding with our dear ones this vacation, right? Let’s see how we can have a ton of fun during our family bonding sessions!

Taking the initiative – Parenting 2.0

How do we get things rolling here? Parents, time to strap on your fun armor and take the lead. Have you ever told your kids about how it was growing up back in your time? Maybe you can break the ice by sharing a few awkward or entertaining incidents from your time growing up. The key here is to spend more time together and have fruitful conversations. You might not realize it, but in many of our cases, our children might know very little about our pasts and life experiences.

Letting them share

So, once parents have shared their tales, it naturally prompts the kids to speak up. When you share something from your past and don that hat of the cool parent for a while, it lets your kids feel an extra bit of trust, the kind of trust that one would normally feel with regard to a friend. That would lead to a lot more communication and a great deal of bonding.

Follow the habit of conversation throughout these holidays. Whatever activity you are doing together, make sure that the words keep flowing.

Get to know each other

We all lead fast-paced lives today and many of us might not know the finer details or recent happenings in the lives of our family members. That’s also one of the reasons why we have vacations or holidays. Get to know your kids better. Help them get to know you better. They might not really know what exactly you do at work. So, tell them during one of these holiday conversations. Find out about their new tastes and understand their views about different things. Yes, we are playing a good deal of catch-up during the holidays. But that is kind of the whole point about it.

Bonding through activity

This is the perfect time to watch your kid’s favorite movie with them. Whatever be the genre, get some popcorn, snacks, and something to drink while you enjoy the visual treat. Plan activities together based on the interests of your kids. Parents can also throw in a few suggestions. You could all cook a few meals together or even take up responsibilities like cleaning the house or rearranging furniture that empowers your kids to take ownership of how your home looks like. This could instill a sense of responsibility in the young ones, at least, much earlier that you had expected.

Travel restrictions have been eased to a certain extent. So, if you wish to go on a family tour then that’s a good option as well. But do your homework in a comprehensive manner about the various safety and travel guidelines associated with the places that you are planning to visit.

Local travel is a less risky option and there are many places in Singapore where you can spend some quality family time. A visit to your favorite restaurant and a sumptuous meal with your family along with some fun conversations can surely be a memory to be treasured forever.

At the end of the day, it’s all about putting in the time. Make sure you do that. There are few things more beautiful than the relationships we share as a family and moments spent with family are definitely priceless. So, these holidays, make sure that you are always there at the dinner table and don’t hesitate to strike up some fun conversations and show your kids that you care.

Let’s make the most out of this holiday season! 🙂
