All good things must come to an end. Well, I don’t know how many of us would refer to ‘examinations’ as ‘good things’ but anyways like all things, exams must also come to an end. After weeks of hectic preparation and skyrocketing tensions, the moment when your kid walks out of the exam hall after the final test would surely be a moment of bliss. Anyone who has ever taken an examination in their life would know that feeling. So, What’s next? How do you relax and what are the things that you can do to make your holidays perfect?
Wipeout thoughts about examinations
Now, this is the key to a fruitful set of holidays. Get this straight into the minds of your kids. Tell them that their exams are over, what is done whether good or bad cannot be undone and thus the holidays are not a season for brooding over the mistakes made during the exams. Just forget about the exams. I know it’s hard but just do it anyways.
Greenery over Gadgets
What is the greatest threat to your kids during the holidays? Gadgets!!! When there is no school, kids tend to waste away all their time using gadgets such as mobile phones, tablets, video games, television and so on. While it is totally fine for them to spend a while on these, make sure that they spend a good amount of time away from them as well. Ensure that your kids get some quality time with nature and is not stuck up inside the house. Go on visits to beaches or places of natural beauty. Take frequent morning or evening walks. Encourage your kids to go and play outside with the kids in the neighbourhood. Let the holidays be a time to explore and experience the vibrancy of the outdoors rather than sitting within four walls with their gadgets.
Try something new
Getting a new hobby is something that can be extremely interesting and productive. Try your hand at knitting, drawing or start taking classes to learn an instrument. Let your child pick something that is close to his/her interests. Learning new things creates happiness and develops confidence in you.
Books are always your best friends
Reading is the most valuable thing that we can get our kids to do. If your kid already has the habit of reading then this holiday season just shower him/her with a pile of exceptional books. If your kid is not an avid reader then there can be no better time to begin that during the holidays. Trust me when I tell you that books can never be a bad idea.
When the dust settles after the exams, your kids will surely have earned themselves a break. They will deserve some fun and make sure that they do get it. But fun is not something that can only be got through gadgets. Diversify your holiday plans and let your kids enjoy themselves in better ways. In a subtle manner let us as parents ensure that this holidays our kids do something that helps them learn and grow while they have fun.
