Okay, time to be frank. How many of us love exams? Exams are one of the toughest parts of our lives. They are unavoidable and we have to face them for our own good. They bring with it a variety of challenges and tons of anxiety. We need to be aware of this first if we have any intentions of getting our kids to fight off the exam fever and come out in flying colours. In this article, we are going to tell you how this can be done.
A calm mind gets the job done
It is easy to panic when exams are near. Anyone can panic. Does adding an extra amount of anxiety or tension help you better your results? The answer is an emphatic ‘No’. Getting too tensed is only going to affect your performance in a bad way and distract your mind. Keeping a calm mind helps you to prepare better and leaves less room for getting distracted. As parents, this is where we can be most effective. Talk to your kids and ensure that they are not unnecessarily tensed. Convince them to believe in their abilities and tell them that if they work hard then there shall be no reason to worry.
The mind and body work in tandem
Taking care of your body is extremely important especially during the time of exams when one can be easily stressed out. First and foremost, ensure that your kid gets enough sleep. Exams are not an excuse to compromise on sleep. At the end of the day, less sleep is going to make you less focused and affect your preparation and performance. Make sure that your child sleeps at least 6 hours. Another important thing is food. Do not let your children skip meals. Ensure that they consume nutritious food and that they do it regularly as during other days
Never tire of discipline
Now, this is something that we have been mentioning throughout this series. But that is only because it can be never stressed enough. Discipline is your best friend during the exam season. See to it that your kids are preparing for the exams in an organised manner and covering the portions well in advance. Tell them not to compromise on their study plans.
Don’t stick with your books 24/7
Too much of study can be intoxicating at times. The mind can only take so much. So, see to it that your kids never punish themselves with their books. Give them breaks at regular intervals. Early morning walks are one of the best recreational activities for the exam season. It gives your kid a bit of leisure while at the same time refreshes their minds and makes them better equipped to study again.
A common routine amongst students is to discuss the answers once they leave the examination hall. This can turn out to be quite depressing or demoralising at times. It can affect their performance in the exams to come. Instead of all this ask your children to set their minds focused on the exams that follow.
Exam fever is not a myth. But there is no reason to exaggerate it either. We parents can do a lot to combat it and ensure that our kids ace their examinations with ease. The above-discussed points can work wonders in your child’s outcomes. Let us help our kids come out with better results!
