The May holidays are here. Yes, this period of unforeseen vacation has caught us all by surprise, but no one’s complaining. After about three weeks of Home-Based Learning, our kids need a break. How are the holidays usually like? Well for starters, now during Circuit Breaker, the kids definitely don’t have to go to school. This time around, our kids have already been out of school for over a month. The holidays are also a time when families plan vacations and other fun activities. Unsurprisingly, kids look forward to their holidays. But what about this time?
Are we in the holiday mood?
The holidays are supposed to be a period of positivity. But what is the present situation? The Covid-19 pandemic has ensured that we remain indoors. Most of the normal holiday activities are impossible at this time. Inside every house, there is at least some degree of concern about how things are going to turn out. On top of that, there are parents who have to juggle household work and office work. Then there are the children who might be a bit gloomy about the lack of activity. Not just the kids, even the adults might surely be uncomfortable about having to remain indoors. Yes, it is easy to fall into a pool of negativity this holiday season. But is that what we should be doing?
Cheer up, believe!!
What is happening outside our homes? What do you see? Do you see a killer virus sweeping the streets and putting in danger the very existence of the human race? No, this is not what you should see. You should be able to see the stellar fight that is being put across the globe by the doctors, paramedics, policymakers and the law-abiding ordinary civilians. Isn’t this struggle something that should give us hope and belief?
Let’s tell our kids that this time they are spending their holidays doing something remarkable. Remember those days when kids were forced to spend more time on outdoor activities than whiling away time playing video games or using their laptops and smartphones? Well, things have changed! 🙂
Help your kids understand that by staying indoors they are helping the entire world win a war against a deadly disease.
Helping each other stay positive
This is also one of those rare occasions when most families are getting such a long period of time to spend together. It might be a time of crisis, but amidst the woes as a small boon, we have gained a lot of family time. This family time in itself is capable of lifting our spirits and helping people stay positive.
Both parents, as well as kids, need each other. For kids, the presence of their parents is reassuring while for the grown-ups, the time with their children will help them find glimmers of happiness. So the key is to plan effective family activities and spend quality family time
Hit the kitchen together and experiment with a few dishes or just sit around talking and sharing. Who knows, these holidays you might get to know your family a lot better than you ever imagined you would.
In times of crisis, it is truly a blessing to be amongst the people whom we love and care about. As you read this, millions of people across the globe are stranded, unable to go home and reunite with their loved ones. If you are stuck indoors with your family, then you are definitely a lot luckier than a large chunk of people. During this period let us be there for each other, spend quality time with our family and come out of all this even stronger than before. Here’s wishing all kids a stupendous holiday! 🙂
