Singapore celebrates Deepavali (or Diwali) on 24 October 2022. This festivity is commonly known as the festival of lights and generally symbolises the victory of light over darkness.
This year, with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, we can celebrate diwali with our family and friends in-person after two years of low-key celebration with no bustling bazaars and open-air concerts.
Before diving into the plans that we have in store for you, let us not forget that COVID is not fully blown over, but we are learning to live with it. It is important that we follow the below precautions to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
- Remember to always carry a sanitizer wherever you go
- Always wear a mask, and only take it off when absolutely necessary
- When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth
- Wash your hands regularly, keep them clean always
- Maintain your distance from larger crowds of people in public
- Avoid gathering and moving in large groups while going out
- Consume a nutritious meal full of vitamin C
People should take the above precautionary measures to reduce the chance of getting infected with the virus especially during the festivities where everyone tends to take it a tad easy. With the spike in the number of cases due to the XBB variant, let us not let our guards down, and do our best to be socially responsible.
Now, let us dive into the various ways in which Diwali can be celebrated in Singapore. The Indian Heritage Centre is offering various activities this year. Check out them to gain a memorable experience of this year’s festival of light with your friends and family.
