With the 57th National Day of Singapore happening tomorrow, it is quite natural that everyone is filled with excitement. With the NDP returning to the heartlands with its full-scale show for the first time since the pandemic started, everyone is eagerly awaiting the day. Even though the pandemic hasn’t ended, the situation has improved a whole lot and it seems the world and especially Singapore is ready to break out of the Covid 19 restrictions and truly celebrate. So, let us look into all activities and events that will be held during the National Day period.
National Day!
The day of independence for any country is of vital importance and a matter of pride and joy. National Day in Singapore commemorates Singapore’s separation from Malaysia on 9th August 1965 and is celebrated on a grand scale. The day is a declared public holiday and is an occasion to celebrate the nation’s achievements and proud history. With the covid restrictions eased and people returning to normal life, it is an occasion to signify and announce to the world that we are opening up in full force. Let us look at the various events that are being organised and how you can celebrate this year’s National Day.
National Day Rally and Parade
The biggest and iconic events of National Day are certainly the National Day Rally and Parade. The Prime Minister will be hosting the National Day Rally, and it will air on the evening of 8th August. The National Day message will be delivered in 3 languages – English, Mandarin, and Malay.
As for the National Day Parade, it is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that it will be held in its full grandeur and scale. The NDP will take place at The Float and will start at about 5 pm. The celebrations will be kicked off with the “Strength of the Nation” segment featuring a Total Defence Display by the Singapore Armed Forces and the Home Team. It will also feature marches and parades by other agencies and organisations, followed by a virtual military tattoo and a virtual choir performance of the NDP 2022 theme song- “Stronger Together”. It will then be followed by “The Story of Us”, which includes live performances and a show film that depicts how Singapore has braved through the challenges, especially during the pandemic period and how we have emerged stronger and celebrating the unity of Singaporeans.
NDP@Heartlands
Over the National Day weekend (on the 6th and 7th of August), there were carnivals and other activities organised across 5 locations with activities for you and your families to enjoy. There were also performances and displays by the Singapore Armed Forces, as well as local artists. You might also have been greeted by the display of Red Lions performing two breathtaking and exhilarating free-fall jumps.
Firework Celebrations
The fireworks celebrations will also be making a grand comeback this year. The firework celebrations involve a multitude of firework experts both from in and out of the country, working to create a treat for the eyes. The view of uncountable fireworks lighting up the sky will leave everyone who watches mesmerised. The main fireworks display will be held in Marina Bay and there will also be displays in 5 heartland locations at the same time.
Gardens by the Bay National Day Concert
Yet another iconic event returning in the post-pandemic opening up is the National Day concert helped by Gardens by the Bat and Mediacorp. Exhilarating performances by musical artists, comedy segments, and other exciting events are all set to entertain you. Performances by actress Rui En, and Taufik Batisah performing the National Day song “Stronger Together”, and the presence of President Halimah Yacob will raise the excitement levels for the event. Even if you don’t get a ticket to the event, you can catch up to it being live-streamed at Supertree Grove. It will also be later aired on Mediacorp channels and their YouTube channel on 13 August at 8 pm.
Besides these, there will be a whole multitude of events and celebrations that you can join and be a part of starting from the beginning of August itself. Few of them are:
- Singapore Sports Hub’s National Day Fiesta
- Visit Singapore Garden Festival 2022
- Check out the National Day Light up at the Bras Basah Bugis
- Visit the National Museum to see their activities as part of the National Day
- Enjoy a mesmerising performance at the annual National Day Concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra
This National Day, let us all come together and celebrate the nation rising and coming out stronger after having faced an immense challenge that rocked the whole world. Let us also on this occasion, remember all the people who lost their lives to the pandemic and all the frontline workers who fought to protect the lives of everyone in the country.
We wish you all a very Happy National Day! 🙂
