3 days to go!
The PSLE is almost here!
If you have read our previous blogs, you might have got some ideas on how to help your children prepare well for the upcoming exams. If you haven’t, do check them out. We have some more tips that might help your children to perform well on their exam day.
Share the following tips with your children to help them stay positive and perform better in their exams.
Plan how you’re going to answer
Use the first few minutes to decide on how you’re going to answer. The first thing to do once you receive the questions is to go through it once carefully. Then decide on how you’re going to proceed. Allot time for different sections and keep an eye on the clock to ensure that you are on time.
For essays, plan the outline, how many paragraphs you’re going to write, and decide on the content for each paragraph before starting to write it. It will help you from getting stuck or overworking on a single paragraph and not giving enough attention to all sections of the essay. For MCQs, you can mark the answers you already know and if you have doubts, cross out the wrong answers- so you ignore them later when you get back to it.
Use positive self-talk to amp yourself up. It can help improve your mood and calm you down. Managing stress is very important to remember everything you have studied.
Never look around in the hall
Seeing others writing a lot and going through papers can make you anxious. Seeing students around get extra answer sheets can affect your performance. So, focus on answering your paper and avoid looking around.
Don’t stay stuck
Don’t waste your time trying to answer questions that you don’t know or aren’t sure of. Answer all the questions you know and come back to the hard ones later.
Mock tests and practice
The best way to perform better on exam day is to prepare well for the exams. Look up the exam pattern and type of questions. Try to make your children attend as many mock tests as you can. It can help them get familiarised with the exam pattern and how to manage the time.
Revise using Revision notes
While studying and revising, make short notes you can refer to at the last moment to help you recall the important topics you have learned. Write down formulae and short notes and refer to them for a brief revision before the examination.
Make use of the time you have
Never leave the exam hall early. If you finish early, use the time to recheck your answers. If you think you can improve any of your answers, do it. Go over your answers multiple times.
Writing tips
Try to keep your sentences short and precise. Make sure your answers are to the point and don’t write too much. The beginning is vital. So try to make it good and start with the topics you are confident about. Write out the points clearly so that the teachers can easily read them. Don’t club together all your points into one paragraph. Make use of diagrams or examples wherever you can. It can help convey your knowledge to the teachers correcting the papers.
Dear Parents, this section’s for you!
Make sure your children keep everything prepared at least a day before the exam. Pens, stationery, anything else they might need for the exam; keep it ready so they won’t have to waste time or get stressed trying to locate it on the morning of the exam.
Get your kids to sleep early the night before, and get your children to the exam hall early! This benefits them tremendously as they can spend some time preparing mentally for the exam. You can tell them to try out some breathing exercises to calm down.
On the day of the exam, make sure they have breakfast and drink enough water- so they have energy throughout the exam time. Tell them not to forget to go to the restroom before entering the exam hall. All these will help them be comfortable and not be distracted by petty stuff.
Try out these tips and share them with others if you find them helpful
On a different note, primary and special education school students have been asked to return to school on 11 October 2021, three days after children’s day. Online classes will continue until then. Make sure you take the necessary measures to help optimize your child’s online learning. All the best! 🙂
