How can I prepare my child for Term 3?

Posted on June 28, 2021June 28, 2021 by 88tuition.com

Doesn’t it feel like time is flying so fast during COVID times even though we are inside our home? Well, it definitely is!

It’s time to get those #BacktoSchool hashtags back and trending!

With term 3 starting from today, schools have prepared for students to return back, in stagged stages.

Parents, do not panic. The Covid-19 situation is more stable than it was months ago. On your part, what can you do to prepare your child for the upcoming term?

Safety First

The safety of our children comes first. The Ministry of Education has mandated Safe Management Measures to be followed by the institutions on the MoE website. Even though the guidelines are for the institutions, try to read up on them- so that you are aware of the measures put in place to protect your children.

There are guidelines that the students have to follow. Make sure your children are made aware of them and follow them. There are things that you have to take care of on your side too.

  • Vaccination

If your children are not vaccinated yet, try to make sure that they receive it as soon as possible. If you have any trouble registering for the vaccine or have doubts, you can contact your child’s educational institution or teachers. They are prepared to help you with any issue you might be facing.

If you are still skeptical about getting your child vaccinated, check out this article we published a couple of weeks back.

  • Proper equipment

Make sure your children have proper safety measures in place. Ensure that they wear masks at all times and give them spares to keep with them in case of any emergencies. Keep a small hand sanitiser bottle in their bag, or you can provide them sanitising wipes to use.

  • Monitor Health

If your children or anyone at home are sick or have flu-like symptoms, try to keep your children at home. Get tested if you have doubts. Constant vigil and screening are expected from the parents so that your child is not the reason other children get infected. Your children can return to school once they are tested negative. We can only bring this pandemic under control if we follow safety regulations and take no unwanted risks. One or two missed school days are not as important as the safety of our children.

  • Hygiene and food

Ask them to wash their hands at regular intervals. Tell them to use sanitisers after touching objects in public places and use wipes to clean their seats and things. Ensure that they change out of the dress they wore to school. It is better to ask them to take a bath as soon as they come home and don’t interact with other members before that. A balanced diet can help boost their immune system and health and help them fight against any possible infections.

Also, try to make sure your children exercise. Staying cooped up at home has turned many children weak and feeling constantly tired. Exercising can help them be more active and ready for school.

  • Stay away from crowds

Tell your children not to crowd or stay in large groups. These can be sources for the virus to spread. Ask them to practice social distancing at school- even with friends. Make sure they understand the severity of the situation.

  • Mental Health

Going back to school after the circuit breaker can be stressful. Many students might find this change hard to adapt to, especially young children. Small children who have become used to learning at home might find it hard to go to school and be away from home. Talk to your children and offer them support. Try to relieve them from their anxieties by actively listening to them and offering quality advice.

  • Classroom Presence

The way classes were handled changed drastically during the pandemic. With classes shifting online, students have gradually adapted to the new and innovative learning methods. Now, with students having to return back to campuses, it is now time for them to get back to the more traditional model of education.

  • Discipline

During the circuit breaker, the habits and daily routines of the children became more chaotic. Try to get them out of their stay-at-home routines and into the back-to-school plan. Make sure they go to sleep on time and wake up early enough to get ready for school. There should be time for them to study and also to play. Help your children set up a schedule and follow it.

  • Homework and Assignments

If there are any pending homework or assignments to do, ask your children to get working on them. Ask them not to put it off till the last day.

  • Study Space

Set them a quiet and good study space where they are not disturbed. Make sure no unwanted guests enter the room when your children are studying.

  • Prepare in advance

For students: Go through the materials for the new term. Look at the topics you have to learn this term. Make a study plan and stick to it. Make sure this term is productive. Try to be a better version of yourself this term.

  • Stationery supplies

Get everything your children needs for the new term. Books, stationary, ask them what they need and get it early. Don’t wait until the last minute.

You might be having many questions and worries about sending your children back to school at the start of this new term. But, keep in mind that safety measures are in place, and with your added support and caution, your children will be safe and can return to their regular school lives. You must support them and help them prepare for this new term ahead of them.

We wish your kids (and you) all the best for the new term! 🙂
