How many of us like being stressed out? Anyone at all? Yes, you can imagine that it’s a synonymous response for everyone. But then, why do we end up stressing ourselves out quite frequently?
Stress almost inevitably creeps up into our daily routines, especially when it comes to learning (yes, all you stressed students know exactly what I am talking about). I guess we can all agree on the fact that more often than not, stress ends up being a negative influence on the learning process, and eventually takes a toll on how we feel. But, do we know how to get rid of it?
Well, read on for some insights that can help you craft a stress-free learning approach.
Stress doesn’t help you. Convince yourself.
Let’s just ask ourselves a question- Does stress help me?
When it comes to academics, what is the most common reason for getting stressed out? It is the fear that you would not be able to complete the syllabus on time for the exams or that you will not be able to perform well in the evaluation processes. Suppose you have one of these concerns. Now ask yourself the question – does getting yourself stressed out help you? (Remember that you are concerned about the fact that you might not be able to cover your syllabus in the stipulated time).
The answer would undoubtedly be ‘no’. Stressing yourself out only ensures that you lose more time, precious time that could otherwise be utilised for covering some extra topics in the syllabus.
So it only seems logical that you shouldn’t let yourself get stressed out, right?
Yes, we admit that it’s tough to think all that logically when you are about to get stressed out. But with a bit of practice, you can bring about the desired changes. The next time you feel that you are being drawn in by stress, try to think the matter through.
Take a deep breath, pause for a second and try to make yourself aware that stressing out is only going to make things worse. Convince yourself that taking on undue stress is just bad and counterproductive.
Have a Plan
Why do we need plans? Why not just study as we please, without any sort of planning? Well, follow that routine and in all likelihood, a week or two before the exams you’ll realise that you have a mountain of topics to study, revise and recollect. Yup, with that plan (or rather, a lack of planning) you’d probably end up in panic mode. What is the moral of this story?
Always have a plan. Put in some time to create a good study plan (believe it or not, yes, it’s worth the time). It helps bring in discipline to your routine while making sure that you will be able to complete the syllabus in an efficient and adequate manner. Making use of innovative and flexible study options including online videos will help you lower stress as well.
Take care of your body
How often do you lose sleep over your academics? Well, maybe you should tone that down a bit. Take care of your body and you will be able to reduce the amount of stress that you feel. What do we suggest?
Get yourself proper sleep, keep yourself well-fed and make sure to put in some time to work out. (But then don’t overdo any of it)
Establishing a routine which includes a proper sleep cycle ensures that you bring in some amount of discipline into your life. The result is that you’ll get an extra element of rejuvenation during the time that you are awake and your efficiency will be at the optimal level
Break-in time
What is the one unavoidable factor for stress-free learning? The ability to take breaks when they are required. Remember the magic words, ‘stress-free learning is never break-free learning’.
Give your mind and body time to cool off. This will help you be less bored or distracted while studying in addition to helping you bring down your stress levels.
Being able to learn in a stress-free manner will surely help you enhance your efficiency at learning and improve outcomes of your learning. So, try out the few things that we have discussed to make sure that you have things under control. Stay chill, and breeze through your learning sessions!
